puritans

To understand the puritans and what they had to go through to live in america, it is necessary to take a closer look at the past to better understand what was required of our ancestors so i can be here today. In the story the issue that the puritans had was when they got to america it had such a giant change to the type of environment that the puritans were used to. Half of the puritans died while in the new world,  only 50 people lived while the rest had to be buried or burned. Another problem that the puritans had was the location in which they decided to settle at, they decided to make camp close to a lake but that was not a good idea due to all the insects.

Christmas time

Although Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year it is also a very stressful time too. When the Christmas season rolls around you have to really plan ahead for the holiday. With my family it is so big that you have to go shopping a couple of times to be able to get everyone a present. Some people are easier to shop for like my cousins, but the most difficult ones are my aunts. They are all old and I don’t usually know what to give them. They are old and they are women that are one bad combination. Also you have to deal with the lines. There is only one other time that is worst then Christmas time lines and that is black Friday. Anyways, when shopping you always worry that they won’t like the gift and that they will just pretend that they like it. That is very irritating, because you can usually tell when someone is lying. I just wish I had easier family members to shop for.

Top 10

Holiday food:

1. Turkey- the way my dad makes turkey there is never enough to go around the table even with the biggest turkey you can find.

2. Pumpkin Pie- Of all types of pie pumpkin pie is the best in my opinion because I prefer not to eat a fruit pie.

3. Fudge- The thick creamy melt in your mouth fudge that my aunt makes is the best and I wish I could have more.

4. Stuffing- I enjoy eating the stuffing that goes along with the turkey because it makes my taste buds explode with joy.

5. Cookies- Everyone loves cookies and in my opinion sugar cookies are the best that you can get.

6. Cider- I love the sweet and sour taste that you get when you start gulping down cider. I prefer apple cider over any other type of cider you can get.

7. Mashed Potato- Out of all types of potato used products I would have to say I enjoy mashed potatoes the most. The nice smooth taste of the potato is great.

8. Green beans- The amount of butter and garlic my cousin puts on it to make the green beans make the vegetable from being good to being great.

9. Cranberries- it seems like a rather random food to love but the truth are told I have loved cranberries my entire life and I will love them the rest of my life.

10. Yams- though in the past I have never been a big Yams person but lately in the past few years I have really loved it. It just shows how peoples taste change as they get older.

Holiday Movies

1. Elf-This funny movie is about a baby boy who crawls into Santa’s gift bag while he is delivering presents to an orphanage. Once at the North Pole the head elf agrees to raise him as his own. Later Buddy figures out that he isn’t an elf and sets out to find his father.

2. Polar Express- This movie is about kids that believe in Santa get taken by train in the middle of the night to the North Pole to meet Santa. The main character in the movie meets new people and eventually meets Santa. Although the other kids in the end as they grow older they think he isn’t real but he knows for a fact that he is in fact a real person.

3. The Grinch who stole Christmas- Mike Myers plays the best Grinch ever and whenever you see him that is who I instantly think of. Mike plays the Grinch who had a bad life experience as a child and now loathes Christmas. A little girl Cindy Lou who isn’t afraid of the Grinch goes and confronts him and she tries to change his mind about Christmas.

4. Charlie brown Christmas-A classic Charlie brown movie about him and his friends having Christmas together as a type of family.

5. Santa clause- Tim Allen plays Santa and when the original Santa falls off his roof he disappears. Tim Allen takes the suit and puts it on to become the next Santa clause. It shows the story of Tim Allen character and how believing in something that you have been told isn't true isn’t always true.

6. Shrek the Halls- A Christmas version of Shrek and how he and his family fight. Until it is gone and he realizes what he truly had to begin with.

7. Rudolf the red nose reindeer- A classic cartoon that shows the life story of Rudolf the reindeer. I tell you about how he got to be Santa’s head reindeer. If you haven’t seen this movie, what do you live under a rock. It is definitely worth the time to watch.

8. A Christmas Carol- The Ghosts from Christmas past, present and also future visit scrooge so that he can find the true meaning of what Christmas is about. A story written by Charles Dickens

9. Home Alone 2- A boy who is going on vacation with his parents and siblings accidently gets separated from his parents and takes a flight to New York. While there he gets into trouble and prevents crooks from steeling all the money from the toy shop. He ends up playing pranks on them and they eventually get caught.

10. A Christmas story-A young boy who all he wanted for Christmas was a red rider gun. Although everyone warned him that if you have a gun you will shoot your eye out. Guess what he does? He shoots himself.

power

Military delegates arrived for the 18th Communist Party Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. The weeklong meeting helps with the naming of China’s top leader, who will replace Hu Jintao. The meeting also introduces a new generation of party leaders. Based on what we know, the chinese are getting ready to change all of there current leaders and replace them with the next generation that will rule over china. Hopefully they will be good people that wants to be close friens with the United States.

war

After war time there has been an increase in the amount of help that has been given to the vetrens that have been coming home from war. These oragnization are trying to help these vets come home and gradually get them back to work. They don't want them to all on their face the only way the can get back to work is with a helping hand. There is currently approximatly 25000 orgaanizations that ae working to help vets. As long as they get the help that is needed to get a job there may be a chance to get these brave men and women who have fought for their country a job. It is the least we can do because they put their life one the line it is time to repay the favor.

Polls

The Associated press have held number 1 team Alabama at number 1 in there own polls for the 10th consecutive week and had the Oregon ducks at number 2 for the 7th strait week. While K-state remains at number 3 and Notre Dame holds number 4 in the polls. Also Georgia and Ohio State are tied for number 5 in the polls and they don't seem to be changing. Number 23 Toledo hasn't been ranked in the top 25 since 2001. Based on the polls the ducks look to be going to the BCS bowl.

Kenjon Barner

After Saturdays game against USC the Kenjon Barner rushed 321 yard and scored five touchdown with the end score 62-51. Kenjon rushed the most yards and scored the most to earn the school record. Also he tied the most rushed touchdowns in Pac-12 history. Kenjon Barner and his great preformance gave him late recognition for the heisman trophy. In my opinion he is a finominal player who deserves to go far in college and potentially go to pro football. As long as he doesn't blow his chance at the pros by doing something stupid there is a very good change he will infact go Pro.

Notre Dame

While most team for college football focus on the main goal of going to the BCS bowl Notre Dame has altered their focus on the Rose Bowl. Unless K-State, or Oregon Lose most likely Notre Dame will not make the Bcs Game. Due to the Ducks going to most likely the BCS bowl the team that will get the seed to go play the Pac- 12 conference is number four Notre Dame. Unless something unforuate happens to the Notre Dame team like they lose their quarterback. Based on the article it is looking like Notre Dame is going to California.

Snickers vs Three Musketeers

The candy that I like more is three musketeers because it is an overall better candy. The taste of the candy when it enters your mouth explodes with many different tastes and sensations, while when you eat snickers the taste does not have the same exploding tastes and sensations it is a little bland. Though both of the candy is good I think three musketeers is a lot better, But if I am in a situation of where I am about to starve to death and all I have to eat is snickers I would not have a problem eating it all up. My favorite candy of all time would have to be skittles for sure and then a close second would have to be peanut butter m&m's. The fact is I am a more fruity candy kind of guy I prefer sweet candy, but I also enjoy eating sour candy like sour patch kids. I have never really been a big chocolate kind of person. Though if I had to I would eat it.

Walking dead

One show that I have been really enjoying lately is the walking dead, and yes the title does kind of give away what the show is about. Well let me think what is the only thing that can be both dead and alive, yeah that right the show is about zombies. This show fallows the story of this group of survivors that haven't been changed into zombies, and how their ability to watch out for each other and not just live but also thrives as a group. The person that you must know is the sheriff (or Rick) and he is not only the sheriff but he is also the leader of the survivors and he is the guy who calls the shot in the show. Along with his 13 year old son Carl and his pregnant wife Lori they travel across different states trying to find both other survivors and also a place to call home. There is currently three seasons out at the moment but it is definitely worth watching, and I am pretty sure that the show is on Netflix and On Demand. One thing that you don’t have to worry about with this show is that there is definitely enough violence.

what is in common

What the story shame and the story daughter of invention both have in common is there is a protagonist character that is trying to put down the main character. The bad character in Shame is the teacher that tries to alienate the main character because he is black and because he doesn't have a father. While the bad character in Daughter of Invention is the father because he doesn't allow his daughter to express herself due to the fright that the dictator will come and get him. Although they no longer live in a dictator’s country, they now live in America. The stories overall I enjoyed and they were entertaining but if you ask me I think that the story shame was a little better than Daughter of invention for two reasons. The first one is the story of shame more people could relate to Richard than the girl. Number two is the story of shame is easier to follow along than daughter of invention. The overall idea of shame is clearer than the overall idea of Daughter of invention the fact that the author made the theme of Shame more clear than the other story, also it helps that the class spent more time understanding and ingestion the story of shame.

Where i see myself in the future

In the future I plan on being poor and homeless, and where the only place that I can shop is at the salvation army and when I do go there I will only be able to get very tattered clothing. Also when I am hungry I will go to the soup kitchen to eat food and I plan on getting mad at one of the server people that are there and I get banned from the kitchen. After that I will have to resort to dumpster diving and stealing food from others. I am totally kidding, that life sounds pretty terrible and I would not want to have to go through that all for a used clothes and some not so good food. I prefer to be on the beach or snowboarding the mountains. I must say it baffles the mind that there are people out there in the united states that have to do that. To be honest there are people like that all over Oregon. I had read it somewhere that if the wealthy shared their money with others then the entire world would all become the middle class. There would be no rich and no poor; there is more than plenty for everyone. The truth is for the most part the rich don't care about others they only care about them self which is very shallow. How I hope to see myself in the future is to have a college degree to a college like the University of Colorado, Utah or Oregon. I hope to go to one of those schools but I guess Portland state is good too. I am planning on going into the business field and hopefully find a job that I love. It would definitely be a plus if the job that I do decide to work for also pays very well. To be honest money isn't everything but it does help. I also wouldn't mind if I got married to a spectacular women and we eventually have kids. Before I have kids I think it would be awesome to compete in the x-games and possibly even win it. Nobody can be overly successful with snowboarding but it has been a lifelong dream of mine to compete at that level. After the X-games and the family and I have finally retired I want to move to Austria and snowboard with my wife until I can’t snowboard anymore or until I die, whichever comes first. If I in fact don't die I will move from Austria back to the United States and complete the rest of my life in Hawaii. I hope that I live long enough to where I can be that crotchety old man that yells at kids to get off my grass. If I live that long then my life will be complete.

Baseball

After beating the New York Yankees in the fourth game of the series the Detroit Tigers are ready to go for the world series title. The Detroit Tigers haven't seen the world series since six year ago where they got destroyed by the St. Louis Cardinals. The difference they claim between 2006 and now is that the Tigers spent the entire week restingfor the world series, but they found out the hard way that when it comes to the world series resting really means rusting. The Tigers played terrible because of the lack of practice. Instead of doing nothing they should have been practicing like the cardinals had been. The fact of the matter is the team that wants it more is the team that will win. The Cardinals just happened to want to win more that the Tigers. The Coach of the Tigers said that instead of resting there players they are going back to the basics of baseball and practice until everything is perfect. After finding out that the Tigers are going to play the San Francisco Giants in the world series they have to step up their game if they want to walk away with the tital of the 2012 World Series winners. In my opinion i think based on skill and how well each team is i think that the tigers are going to walk away winners, but if i had to choose which team to root for i hop the Giants will win. Not to mention the Tigers beat my favorite team the New York Yankees. That would have been great because the Yankees and the Giants are two of my favorite teams when it comes to baseball.

Interview

After considering everyone in my life that I know there was one person that I can relate to the most. Through my life time I have felt that there was always one person that I knew that I could trust and that was my father. He was the man that I knew that I could trust if there was nobody else that I did in fact trust. He is the man that would drop what he is doing to assist you if you needed any type of help with the task at hand. Learning from him I have developed traits that I will carry on throughout my entire life and when he does die his legacy will live on through me and my kids and the habits that we will all have. My father lived in a different time period where manners where enforced and respect was earned not given.

My father grew up just a few years after World War 2 and a few years before Vietnam which basically means he grew up in that awkward time between the wars known as the baby boom. Yeah, my father was one of those babies who were born because all the soldiers came home from war. His childhood was way different that my childhood was, for one thing kids back than had a ton more freedom than the kids of the present. Adults back than weren't as afraid of the world around them compared to today. Parents of the present are so over protective, I will give you based on some of the stories that I have heard from my father’s childhood are rather ridiculous, the fact that parents did give them a ton of freedom at a really young age stuns me but the parents of today don't really give kids any freedom. The same goes for high school, the technology that the schools have today are amazing compared to no technology when my dad was a kid, and yet the average ability to learn is steadily decreasing. Teenagers of the current day have so much technology that they are becoming lazier and all they want is the easy way in life. The views on life where also different back then, teens weren't taking criticism as serious as they are today, suicide is a more recent thing that has been going on. As the saying goes "suicide is a lifelong solution for a short term problem", which is basically saying killing yourself over a problem you face currently is rather pathetic because the problem you face will eventually go away.

Throughout your life you have to make many decision, some you are glad you made and there are some you wish you had not made. Everyone makes bad decisions some of the decisions my father wish he had not done was going to war. Though it was not his choice to go to war due to him being drafted into the military he still has to have on his conscience that he has killed other men. In your mind you have to get over the fact that you have killed someone, the truth about war is when it comes down to battle it is either he dies or you do. So the thoughts about killing others get pushed aside because you don't want to end up on the ground dead. Another decision my father wishes he had not made was investing his time into a company that he was not make a ton of money off of. Though he is glad he had made a few choices in life like marrying my mom and having a son. Also he was glad he has had a long and healthy life so far.

No matter whom you are you think about your future and how you see yourself in ten years. My dad sees himself lying in a hammock on one of the beaches in Puerto Rico, without a care in the world. My dad would have to retire for that to be a possibility, but my dad doesn't really want to do that because work keeps him busy. In my own opinion I think the link between life and death is work. When you are first born you have a lot of things to learn. Throughout the person’s life they have different skills they learn which takes work to achieve them. Once they stop working and stop trying to learn new things they gradually die. My dad hopes that flying cars have been invented before he dies so he can fly to any place he wants to and won't have to pay for planes. Wouldn't it be nice to have a flying car, can you imagine that. There would be no more traffic because the cars would not all be on one level in the sky. Whether scientists are ever able to figure out a way to make flying cars that will just depend but who ever could figure this scientific breakthrough would become very wealthy. Also if a scientist was able to make some type of teleportation device that could teleport you from one place to another that would be rather cool.

After talking with my dad about his childhood, not just about how kids are overprotected and lazy now days I also learned how easy my life is compared to how difficult his childhood was. My dad grew up during a time where there were a million different brands of each product, there was a single brand of most products and you either liked it or would use it, or you would be forced to suffer or not use it at all. Also his childhood was back when the cars where made not to go as fast as they are made today which just makes life a little longer. Also he had to share his stuff with his brother because he lived in a time where if you had one then why would you need another. Like don't get me wrong my dad’s family wasn't poor it was that families needed less to live on they didn't need everything for them to be happy.

After having sat down with my dad and talking about his life I realize that my life is rather easy in comparison to his. He also said that if he had a chance to do it all over again he would not change a thing. The things you do in your life define you as a person and if you change those actions you are altering yourself as a human being, nobody is perfect.

Top 10

1.) The top ten things that are overrated when it comes to summer would have to be leaving to go to mexico. I have been to mexico a few times and i will tell you it is not what you would expect. It isn't as nice as you would think it would be after all the tourist that go there. When i stayed in mexico i stayed in the nicest parts of mexico but even then you can't stay in the nice parts all the time and you will eventually enter the poor sides. So basically if you want to be depressed by all the poor or get robbed for the twenty dollars that you have in your pocket mexico is the place for you.

2.) Another place that is depressing is Honduras. I went there two years ago and once you leave the towns it is very nice and peaceful but the towns are full of trash because nobody cares about sanitation. Also everyone is so poor there because there isn't any jobs that a lot of the kids are walking around naked. Talk about gross, when i signed up for the trip i didn't think that would be apart of the trip.

3.) Disney world is so overrated because it has more rides in more theme parks but if you like the rides in disneyland then you won't like disney world. Also if you like spending a butt load of money on food, attractions, and on entertainment because you can't always be at the park then you will love disney world.

4.) France is another place that i will not be going any time soon. The looks of france is nice with all the beautiful buildings and statues, but the thing that bugged me was how the french treated tourist. Tourist are giving money to come and experience france but when you treat people bad they won't want to come back. Another thing that bugged me was the amount of graffiti all over the city.they had these wonderful statues that some jerk decided that it would be a good idea to put their own name on the statue and wreck the view of the statue to all people, and the french people don't really care. The most annoying thing about france was the amount of dog poop on the ground. The people of france walk their dogs a lot and when they go to the bathroom on the sidewalk they just leave it.

5.) Also what is overrated is Maui, in my opinion after being to three of the islands i would have to say the big island would have to be my favorite. Maui is a little to hot for my taste and when we went there was always clouds glooming over us up on the mountain and it seemed like it was going to be a bad storm but there never was. Also the waves on Maui weren't as big as they were on the big island. I like to surf and i realize that winter is the best time to go because the waves are bigger but i am not about to skip out on snowboarding for a couple of waves. I will give maui that it was nice that the reef was not very far from the shore but to be honest they weren't very far from the shore on the big island.

6.) Beavers are an overrated team in my opinion. They have beat a couple of teams and they are towards the top part of the top 25 and if they played anyone good they would get beaten. If they played LSU or Alabama they would get destroyed. The beavers are an okay team like don't get me wrong they beat some good teams like stanford with amazed me because i thought that stanford would have steam rolled right over the beavers, but the team that wanted it more won and that was the beavers.

7.) Another overrated thing to do over summer is to go on a road trip. A few years ago i went on a roadtrip with my parents and my sister, let me tell you it was the most boring and tireing two days of my life. we were driving from tualatin to San Francisco so we could look at possible colleges my sister might attend. Those twenty four hours there and back showed me how boaring it must have been back in the day before technology. I literally staired out the window for hours and saw the same exact things over and over, grass, trees, farm ,animal, farm, and another tree. I literally thought that i was going to blow up from anger.  I have never not wanted to be out of a car more than that day.

8.)  Also what is overrated would have to be Pro football. I think that if you play pro football it is more fake and they dont really want to win, they dont have the same drive as college players have. For one thin college football players want to keep their scholarship to keep playing and keep attending the college they are going to. Also they have the desire to make it to pro football, while the pro football players are getting large sums of cash to play a game where they dont care if they win or lose.

9.) Starbucks is also overrated because they make you pay so much to get any type of good coffee. In comparision to Dutch Bros they are so much more expensive and in my opinion i think that the taste of the coffee is better. I also like the taste of their chocolate better than starbucks. I think that our school should have Dutch Bros move in and have them work at the Wolf cafe in the tech wing. The amount of money they would componsate for the summer because there wouldn't be any students at the school.

10.) The last thing that i think that is overrated is the amount of time that students have free. They sould all have something to do to be able to stay productive. The fact that students have three mnths and most of them do absolutely nothing in that time. As long as you stay busy there is nothing wrong with time off. Once you start doing nothing then there is a problem. Dont get me wrong i love summer vacation and relaxing and doing nothing is fine butif you do that every day then that is good.

10/10/12

This is what i learned today- Sept. 24, 2012

Today I read the article "Oregon Moves Past LSU to NO. 2" This was a post that was written by the associated press which states after the win over the Arizona Tigers. The Oregon Ducks won 49-0 and with the giant victory they move from number three forward to number two. Lsu who was playing Auburn won with a small victory 12-10.
The article that I read was about the unrated Washington Huskies that beat the rated number 8 Stanford 17-13. The huskies had a strong comeback after being down 13-3 with only 4:53 minutes left on the clock. The Huskies had a strong play that the running back Bishop Sankey got the ball and ran 61 yards to get a touchdown. Then the Huskies had a nine play drive that put the Huskies in the lead. When the clock ran out the Huskies had beat Stanford in this unexpected upset. The Huskies haven't beaten a top ten team since number 3 USC back in 2009.

Oldest Person I Know

The oldest person that i can remember would have to be my grandpa. He is currently 87 years old, or at least he would be if he was still alive. He died one week after thanksgiving at the age of 85 years old. What i remember about him was that he loved the beach and everything about it. He loved the smell of the salt in the air, walking on the beach, and of for sure the fishing almost everyday. I never really spent much time with him but when i did spend time with him it seemed that he was getting more mean with every visit. Within the last few months of his life he stopped being mean and he treated everyone right. My favorite memory of my grandpa was when i was 7, me and my family went down to the beach to visit my grandpa and grandma. While we where down there my dad, my grandpa, and myself went fishing and that was the moment i knew i was a man because i was invited to the mans fishing trip.

getting even

The one time that i was judged for appearance was a calm day up on Mt. Hood. There is a bitter rivalry between snowboarders and the skiers. Nether one likes the other and as long as you don't provoke the other there isn't really a problem. This day i had forgotten my goggles at home and the only pair we had was my moms old pair. The neon pink and yellow weren't exactly my colors but nothing was going to stop me from snowboarding. About halfway through the day i somehow got separated from my parents and was forced to ride the chairlift by myself. The teenage skiers that were on the chairlift were either high or drunk because they were having problems keeping control in the chairlift. One of them noticed my goggles and started teasing me. Later that day i saw them on a run and i came shooting out of the trees which knocked them all over and they started tumbling down the giant hill they were on. By the time they got to the bottom of the chairlift i was already far away from them. I don't know if it was the right approach, whether i should have gotten back at them, but who picks on a little kid. I never saw those teenagers again but i would consider us even.

This blog was inspired by the creative mind of my teacher Rick Osborne. Without his dedication to the class none of this would be possible and for that i am honored to accept this golden globe. Many years ago i wanted to start my own blog but i never knew how to, but one september day i walked into the classroom and he told us that we are to create a blog. Now i am complete person! Now i am getting down to the real stuff. I am sixteen and i am a red head with blue eyes, i enjoy snowboarding hence the blog name, and i like to travel the world. I have currently visited all continents at least once within my life time. I love to camp, watch football with my father and take long walks on the beach. my dream car is a 2013 mustard GT, and my dream bike is a Segway (You are jealous). I am hoping that this will be one of the best blogs ever.
